Red-tailed Hawks are the most abundant hawk across Canada. They are here year-round and seen often in winter, looking like a football perched upright in a leafless tree or on a fence post. Look for the dark head, and broad dark belly band across a pale belly. The red tail is not always apparent. (Move mouse over images below to enlarge &/or see captions).
Bald Eagle sub-adult, (the head and tail are not fully white yet).
Did you know that many Bald Eagles of all ages can be seen near the Kelowna landfill in winter? In January 2022 two of us counted 15 adult birds and 12 younger ones there.
