Time for change. Fall brings shorter days, cooler nights and fewer insects or other sources of food. Many birds leave us and migrate southwards at this time. (See Waves of Migration - Fall). Other species that bred in the higher conifer forests often come down lower into our valley when the weather turns colder, and many can be more easily seen at this time of year.
