Here are some more pictures of the birds of summer. The top two are both ducks, here to breed in their bright 'summer' plumage. This is the season for spotting ducklings, goslings and other young birds. Eared Grebes are only here in summer, too. Below the shorebirds is an Osprey, actively searching for fish below with which to feed his mate and growing chicks back at their nest.
By the water in summer you'll also see shorebirds. The most abundant here and first to arrive each year is the Killdeer. The bird shown in the middle photo below is pretending to have a broken wing, as it 'hobbles' away from a perceived predator. Why? To lure the predator (me) away from her nest, in which are her four precious eggs... Don't step on those eggs!
